Initiatives
JTB Trading is undertaking various initiatives through its business activities to tackle the key challenges identified in our three priority areas.
-
Environmentally conscious society Development of eco-friendly amenities
We are promoting the shift from plastic to naturally derived materials in our amenity products, which are classified as specified plastic items—products that businesses provide as free amenities and are regulated under Japan's Plastic Resource Circulation Act. A variety of environmentally conscious materials, such as barley, rice husks, and bamboo, are being developed to support this transition.
Example: “mugikara”
By using discarded barley as a raw material and incorporating renewable biomass, the product reduces plastic use by approximately 29%. In addition, by adopting kraft-style paper for its packaging, plastic usage is reduced by about 89%. -
Environmentally conscious society Promotion of material recycling initiatives
As a member of the Amenity Recycling Association, we are promoting material‑recycling initiatives. By providing a material‑recycling scheme for amenity goods used in accommodation facilities, we help the hospitality industry address its environmental challenges.
Horizontal Recycling
This method collects used amenities and recycles them into raw materials, which can then be manufactured again into the same type of product. While this approach is well established for PET bottles, it is now also possible for items such as toothbrushes and hairbrushes.Applicable product series: R Series

Environmentally conscious society Comprehensive facility renovation and renewal
We offer comprehensive support for facility renovations and renewals, from design and construction through to the selection of furnishings. With a commitment to creating spaces that are both environmentally responsible and comfortable for all, we deliver sustainable spatial solutions.
- 1.Installation of energy‑efficient systems
-
- By adopting high‑efficiency air‑conditioning and lighting systems, we reduce energy consumption and CO₂ emissions, achieving measurable improvements in operating costs and environmental impact.
- 2.Use of Environmentally Conscious Building Materials
-
- By using low-VOC materials to improve indoor air quality, incorporating recycled materials, and selecting long-lasting, highly durable materials, we reduce the environmental impact throughout the entire building lifecycle.
- 3.Resource Circulation Through Renovation
-
- By making effective use of existing resources, we significantly reduce demolition waste and CO₂ emissions generated during construction.
- 4.Strength of Total Support
-
- Our end‑to‑end approach—from design and construction to fixtures and equipment—minimizes material waste and enables efficient project management.
- 5.Universal Design
-
- We create comfortable spaces for all users, promoting long-term building utilization and integrating both social and environmental sustainability.
- 6.Collaboration With Local Communities
-
- By leveraging local resources, we reduce transportation energy consumption while supporting both regional economic revitalization and environmental conservation.
-
Environmentally conscious society Unit Bath Regeneration (UB Rebirth)
“UB Rebirth” is a registered trademark and an original brand of JTB Trading.
Our unit bath regeneration method, which uses existing unit bath structures, is an environmentally friendly and sustainable approach to construction.- 1.Significant Reduction of Waste
-
- Since existing components are neither dismantled nor removed, the amount of industrial waste—such as bathtubs and wall panels—is minimized.
- 2.Effective Use of Resources
-
- By maximizing the use of existing equipment, we reduce the extraction and manufacturing of new materials, contributing to a circular economy.
- 3.Reduction of CO₂ Emissions
-
- Reducing the need for new product manufacturing, transportation, and demolition work significantly reduces the overall carbon footprint.
- 4.Reduced Use of Chemical Substances
-
- Compared to full replacement, this method uses less adhesive, paint, and other chemicals, which helps decrease environmental impact.
- 5.Energy Savings Through Shorter Construction Periods
-
- A shorter construction schedule decreases on-site electricity consumption and reduces fuel use for worker transportation.
-
Environmentally conscious society EV Charging Solutions
As decarbonized management becomes increasingly essential, we are contributing to a more sustainable society by installing EV charging infrastructure. This initiative supports the transition from gasoline vehicles to electric vehicles and promotes the development of a carbon‑neutral society by expanding decarbonization efforts that incorporate renewable energy.
-
Enriching Communities and Society DX Support and Operational Efficiency for Facilities and Local Areas
We provide a wide range of digital solutions, including avatar-based remote front-desk support services, area information digital signage that consolidates local and tourism information, multilingual voice assistants, and automated translation devices. Through these solutions, we help facilities and regions enhance service quality and solve on-site issues.
-
Enriching Communities and Society Support for the Reconstruction of Wakura Onsen
In FY2024, we conducted on-site interviews with accommodation facilities and provided operational support to the Wakura Onsen Creative Reconstruction Town Building Promotion Council as part of developing a regional reconstruction plan.
In FY2025, we joined the “Decarbonization Project” subcommittee of the newly established Wakura Onsen Town Building Company, the successor to the council. Together, we are driving initiatives such as joint procurement (for waste reduction, recycling, and BCP-related supplies) and the standardization of equipment and maintenance.
We will continue to work with the community and support the long-term reconstruction of Wakura Onsen. -
Enriching Communities and Society Industry–Government–Academia Project
(DMO × University × JTB Trading)
To enhance Atami's tourism value, we facilitated a collaborative project among industry, government, and academia. JTB Trading planned and supported a hands-on training program for Generation Z university students, enabling them to propose new tourism models for Atami from the perspective of tourism studies.
-
Enriching Communities and Society Promoting Sustainable Regional Economies Through “Rurubu no Sanchoku”
“Rurubu no Sanchoku” is an online direct-from-producer marketplace built on the themes of “travel” and “supporting local regions.” Developed within JTB Shopping, it delivers regional specialties—nurtured by Japan's rich natural environments—directly from producers to customers.
To address challenges faced by local producers, such as labor shortages, limited promotional reach, and difficulty securing stable revenue, we are strengthening initiatives that support sales and visibility.
By preserving regional food culture and revitalizing local economies, we aim to deliver new value to customers while contributing to sustainable regional development. -

Even essential travel items can contribute to sustainability. Our eco-friendly travel name tags use “Yupo paper,” which incorporates plant-derived resins to reduce environmental impact. By conserving resources, these products help realize a more sustainable society.
